How Parents Can Support Students With Maths

You don't need to be a maths expert to help. Routine, encouragement and the right questions go a long way.

Talk positively about maths

Avoid saying "I was never good at maths". Children pick up attitudes quickly; treat difficulty as a normal part of learning.

Ask them to explain

Asking "how did you get that?" helps a child organise their thinking — and shows you where they are stuck.

Build a short, regular routine

Twenty focused minutes most days beats a long session once a week.

Know when to get extra help

If homework regularly ends in frustration or test scores fall, a few one-to-one sessions can identify the gap early.
